Mozilla crashes with JRE 1.4.2_07 plugin

Hi folks!
I installed JDK 1.4.2_07 on feebsd 5.4 box succuessfully from source und 
linked the ns610 plugin to the browser_plugins directory via ln -s ...
Every time i opened the java console of mozilla 1.7 / 1.8 or firefox the 
browser crashes. Googling brings no solution and i don't know further!
Has anyone run JRE-plugins with mozilla and a tip for me.
