I had this problem too, and it turned out that my entry in /etc/hosts
for the machine I was on was wrong, and that fixed it.
(That is, the IP address was wrong in there)

Dear Sirs!
does java on FreeBSD supports UDP sockets ?
I'm running FreeBSD-5.2.1 + jdk1.4.2
when I run jmstudio (java/jmf) --> File --> Open RTP Session -->
blah-blah-blah ---> Open
I get "Failed to create session manager" with the following stack trace.
I guess it is related to UDP (datagramm) socket creation.
javax.media.rtp.InvalidSessionAddressException: Can't open local data
port: 22226
