Opera & JDK 1.4.2 Applets

Hello,

Now and than I'm trying to run applets in Opera.
I use Opera for Freebsd which is compiled on FreeBSD 4.x (I think 4.8) by 
the Opera company and JDK 1.4.2p6 on FreeBSD 5.2.

Is it true that this will never work because the JDK is compiled on 
FreeBSD 5.2 and Opera on 4.x? Opera uses JNI to connect to/start the JVM 
for running the applet.
