incorrect memory shown

Dear readers,

I have been searching the groups and reading several things, but I 
haven't figured this one out yet.

We have a Dual Itanium2 server with 4GB of memory running FreeBSD6.1/IA64

My dmesg output gives me these numbers:
real memory  = 2106982400 (2009 MB)
avail memory = 1988993024 (1896 MB)

The BIOS sees the full 4GB of memory.

In one thread, I read something about 'machdep.c', but this thread seems 
incomplete and is about a previous version of FreeBSD.

Anybody out there that can point me in the right direction?
