Yes, that would be desirable. The HTTP code in sysinstall
uses the same paths as the FTP code.

Maybe, I don't know. I can only say for sure that it works
fine on ftp7.de.freebsd.org because I wrote the CGI program
that implements the HTTP access to the FTP tree. :-)
