FreeBSD 7.3 on VMWare ESX 3.5

Hello,

is there any known way to boot and install FreeBSD 7.3 on VMWare 3.5
or older?

I get an immediate VM crash with both amd64 and i386 version the
when the kernel probes for an mpt(8).

The issue seems to have been known during the 7.3 release
process, but apparently nobody fixed it.

Any ideas - or has FreeBSD given up on that platform?
