tip has -n and cu not

Hi,

is there any particular reason why tip has the -n flag to disable escape
handeling, but cu does not?

Reason for the question:
Looking for a way to get external access to bhyve consoles connected to
/dev/nmdmXXXA.
I'd like to use cu as "shell" to make it possible to give user access to
a /dev/nmdmXXXB port thru ssh. And this is the only thing that user is
able to do.... And without the -n flag, cu allows all kinds of nasty
escape tricks.
