The original crash as reported in the comment #0 was a different thing. I got
this heisenbug when building everything WITH_DEBUG set to true. The original
crash was there because unpackaged /usr/local/lib/babl-0.1/16bit.so was there
as a leftover from the previous gimp installation.

Therefore this bug reports concerns the second json-c related crash only.
