Indeed the binary pkg gave me the same error, i.e. 'not opening files of any
type'. I installed the port and works perfectly including previews,
guttenprint, filters, etc. As follows:
# pkg delete gimp
# pkg clean -a
# cd /usr/ports/graphics/gimp
# portmaster

I do not wish to start anything unrelated but are any of you using a Lenovo?
