I had the same issue, and fixed it by force deleting cairo and reinstalling the
old version from my pkgng cache:
pkg delete -f cairo-1.12.16_1,2
pkg add /var/cache/pkg/cairo-1.10.2_10,2.txz

I am using FreeBSD 10.0-p9 on i386 with intel graphics
