Building gnome-vfs with PORT_REPLACES_BASE_BIND

I just tried updating my mail desktop to 2.28 and failed because I have
BIND 9.6.1-P2 installed replacing the base version. I could re-install
the base BIND, but really prefer not to have to. Any explanation of the
problem?  Any way to avoid re-installing the base BIND?
