 Some additional information that might be useful:
 The problem also occurs with older versions of firefox (1.5) and also
 with thunderbird. Further it can be fixed by installing everything
 without gnome (WITHOUT_GNOME, WITHOUT_GNOMEVFS).
 The problem occured the first time (for me) when the update to gnome*
 2.16 has been made.
