gnome 2.14 performance degradation

There really are not enough details here to even guess as to the cause
of the problem.  GNOME 2.14 is very fast for me on multiple machines.
You might have a look at http://www.freebsd.org/gnome/docs/faq2.html#q20
and see if those suggestions help.
