Wow. I read that and thought "Cool, there's another George playing w/
Gnome and FreeBSD. I'd completely forgotten that entire adventure.
I'm not sure exactly how I resolved it at the time. These days I have
a minimal .Xresources files that's -merged by xrdb from my .xinitrc.
The only things in it are:
xterm*ScrollBar: on
xterm*SaveLines: 10000
XTerm*VT100*geometry: 80x35
XTerm*background: lightyellow2
! xterm*VisualBell: true
! xterm.eightBitOutput: true
I do all of my Xemacs configuration via the Options button in the
toolbar, and or by hand hacking the resulting .xemacs/custom.el file.
It seems to happen late enough in the process that things work out.
Things seem to work, the only problem I experience regularly is that
sawfish/gnome positition the xemacs window, *then* it sets my chosen
font. Since my personal font is bigger, the window grows and it's
right edge and/or bottom often extend off the screen. I just mouse up
and move it around to suit.
