Forgetting settings

Further to this I noticed this in my log files...

gconfd (david-582): None of the resolved addresses are writable; saving
configuration settings will not be possible

(usually repeated twice).

What addresses is it referring to and could this be the cause of my
problems? A google search didn't throw up much of use :-(
