You need to add your hostname (as obtained via the hostname(1) command)
to /etc/hosts. If your IP address changes, then it's best to add a
entry that points this hostname to 127.0.0.1. You don't necessarily
have to disable FAM, but you should thoroughly read the FAQ surrounding
this issue at http://www.freebsd.org/gnome/docs/faq2.html#q20.
