Reducing GNOME's dependency on older versions of libtool

It does a lot more harm than you think.  A _lot_ more.  There is work
underway to remove the need for libtool13 as well as a lot of patches
and hacks used by the GNOME ports.

Don't waste your time.  This will all be sorted out in the near future.
