I'm out of ideas.  I can't reproduce the behavior on -STABLE or
-CURRENT, and unfortunately, I don't have a 4.8-RELEASE machine with
which to test.  MY advice would be to wait until 4.9 is released,
upgrade to that, and see if the problem persists.
