 I don't have Linux.
 
 FWIW: gnometerminal2 + sawfish under FBSD-4.8-STABLE has no problem with 
   retaining the window size of a multi-session, tabbed, terminal window.
 
 FWIW.2: gnometerminal2 + sawfish + FBSD-5.1-RELEASE has no problem 
 retaining terminal window size IF there is only one terminal session in 
 the window.
 
 FWIW.3: all the above involve setting window size in active Gnome2 
 session, quitting Gnome2, and later restarting Gnome2. This problem has 
 nothing to do with other problems creating a new tabbed session.
