While starting Gnome 2.4 I just see the Splash-Screen

Hi,

I have a problem with the Gnome2 Port. After I build and installed
it without erroes, I have no chance to start Gnome. Each time i try 
I just see X starting and the there appears the Gnome Splash-Screen. 
After that nothing else happens. I can kill X by using 
[CTRL]-[Alt]-[Backspace], so my maschine is still alive. 

If I use Xfce, there is no problem. I would be glad about any hints
to solve my problem.
