Synopsis: Make Gnome2 installation of GDM to be optional
State-Changed-From-To: open->closed
State-Changed-By: marcus
State-Changed-When: Thu Aug 7 19:46:09 PDT 2003
State-Changed-Why:
While gdm is not required to build GNOME, it is a part of the official GNOME
desktop, and thus is included in the meta port. I do not want to carve up
the port to optionalize all the components of GNOME. If you do not like
gdm, you are free to use your patch locally, or simply build your own
meta port that excludes gdm. Note, both X and KDE distribute a display
manager.
As for the interactive menu, I do appreciate this as a problem, and I have
removed this in the upcoming GNOME 2.4 version of GDM. There hasn't been a
security hole reported in GDM for some time. In the meantime, you are
free to define BATCH in /etc/make.conf to work around this.
