Using freebsd-update(8) to update /usr/src, downloaded with git(1)

CQ Hallo.

Is the "src" Components in the freebsd-update.conf(5) still relevant
to the FreeBSD Release.

i.e. Is it possible to update /usr/src with freebsd-update(8) -- 
downloaded with git(1) or extracted during the installation?
