You overmixed them ;)
gpart bootcode -b /boot/pmbr -p /boot/gptzfsboot -i 1 ada0
(lowercase 'i' and pmbr, 1-sector pre-loader for -b)

But after from a current 10-stable ISO.
gpart bootcode -p /boot/gptzfsboot -i 1 ad0

Still yields my original issue
