I just discovered that the GUI of the current package works fine over an ssh
connection.

Might the seg fault have something to do with interactions with the DRM?

At any rate, you can work around it with "ssh `hostname`" for now, or maybe
forcing software rendering will help.  Haven't tried it yet myself.
