YouTube and other videos fail to play in VirtualBox VMs

Just tried my Win7 guest on my 12-STABLE host and video played fine. I then
tried Mint and see the same issue you are. High CPU usage and the initial
frame of the video appears and then the spinner just keeps spinning,
seemingly forever, with no further frames displayed.
