That's strange. Very strange. Compiling the stuff in a gentoo-stage3
chroot didn't resulted in a panic/reboot for me. I got reports about a
missing /proc and /dev/null, but after I mounted linprocfs and devfs
in the gentoo chroot, it went just fine.
I suggest to find the cause of this when you are back in front of the
machines.
