Probably you will end up [also] running current, not a release, 'cos that's
what driver writers develop against usually.

If you don't have a curent partition on your laptop yet, do a backup,
& repartition & grab the latest 10 Beta 1 & install in a partition.
(good to have mutliple partitions for when one goes wrong. I suggest
do minimal installs of a release & 10 Beta 1 & make sure none kill
each other's boot, than install extras.

Regardless what internal lan chip you have,
If you install current, then for 10 Euros you can buy a wlan usb
adapter that sticks out just 3mm from edge of case, that should
solve wlan for you, (it uses urwtn driver which is not in 9.* )

Link to more on the 3 millimetre wlan chip.
