Unable to install FreeBSD 9.0 release.

I only can tell you what I would do in your situation. You know 8.2. Just install 8.2 You can then either stay with it  or upgrade the installation to 9.

As I understand, you believe it is not a FreeBSD problem related to your new hardware but something else.
