found a typo in
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/serialconsole-setup.html

man 5 loader.conf states:
>>All settings have the following format: variable="value"<<

while in the document the double quotes are missing

>>Then, create /boot/loader.conf.local and put the following line there.

console=comconsole

or

console=vidconsole

<<

correctly it should be

>>Then, create /boot/loader.conf.local and put the following line there.

console="comconsole"

or

console="vidconsole"<<
