build in /usr/doc fails on images

I have tried a lot, but I can't reproduce this here on any of my
systems.  I have tried 5.1-BETA, 5.1-RELEASE, 4.8-STABLE (though an 2
month old STABLE).  I also tried upgrading ghostscript, it still
works...  Very odd.
