I haven't been involved in any discussions around changing the front
page, but I'm really happy to see the direction that it's likely to go.

I'll toss an idea in:  Cleaning up the "Mailing lists" link under
"Documentation". It's two clicks away from a list of the available
lists, and three away from a subscribe/unsubcribe page. It also seems a
bit confusing ... multiple ways to get to archives (and what appears to
be two different archiving systems). A visitor sees non-English
language-specific lists before they see the topic-specific lists.

The first link seems to be somewhat superfluous ... perhaps linking
directly to
/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/eresources.html#ERESOURCES-MAIL and
migrating some of the information at the current link might help.
