That would explain it.  I tried to make this simpler by personalizing 
the pkg_message (see "pkg_info -D cvsweb-3.0.5_1"), but I ignore those 
sometimes and I'm sure others do too...

No worries.  Thanks for sticking with me!

No need to look at cvsweb.conf-freebsd.dist: $CMD{rlog} is not defined 
in it so the error becomes obvious.  Looks like the *bsd/ruby config 
files don't get updated often.  Updating them is another item on my todo 
list, perhaps with dire warnings proclaiming doom if you are not on the 
one true *bsd/ruby repo path... ;-)
