Thanks, Pete, I assume that you have a discrete Radeon card with the Kaby Lake system, can you share details of the discrete and on-board graphics?
FWIW I'm glancing at <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaby_Lake> but it's entirely new to me.

For me right now the working combination (sleep and wake entirely reliable, touch wood) for an HP EliteBook 8570p with AMD 'Thames' Radeon HD 7570M is:
r339186
poudriere jail at r339212
drm-next-kmod 4.11.g20180822 poudriere
drm-next NOT installed
# hw.acpi.reset_video=1 NOT set (commented out)
UEFI without CSM.

A few minutes ago I edited
/boot/loader.conf to allow hw.acpi.reset_video=1 then installed
drm-kmod g20180930 from poudriere, I'll now reboot. Feedback later.
