Burning CDs and DVDs on SATA drive in FreeBSD 9.0

Define "refuses to work"..

I have an oldish 9.0-CURRENT which works with cdrecord..

I have a newer system but it doesn't have a DVD drive in it, however cdrecord does seem to work (it sees the AHCI connected disks)..
