I suspect that if you look at the output of

pkg -vv

you will see that you are still using the quarterly branch.

Copy /etc/pkg/FreeBSD.conf to /usr/local/etc/pkg/repos/FreeBSD.conf then run

pkg pkg update -f to get the latest repository metadata.

Be prepared, you're probably going to get many package updates.
