I seem to be the guilty party, since I originally wrote the s/-ldl/-lc patch
in Makefile.  I wanted to avoid editing files directly as in r153 to prevent
having more local patches, but apparently it broke 7/8 compatibility.

Fine with me, don't forget to remove the "cat pkg-message" lines in Makefile.
