That's one way of looking at it.  Another is that if .NET becomes somewhat
of a standard due to implementations on other platforms, Microsoft's
control could be broken.

I agree with Chip though - there are scads of VB programs out there that
only run on Windows.  Being able to run that code on FreeBSD would be a
huge benefit.
