After disabling the following kernel options:

# Statically Link in accept filters
options         ACCEPT_FILTER_DATA
options         ACCEPT_FILTER_DNS
options         ACCEPT_FILTER_HTTP

The system works as expected, squid starts up and the server keeps running.
