Unable to get to the command prompt. Kernel locks up during the initial stage of boot. The motherboard is ASUS M3A78-EMH HDMI w/ AMD 780G chipset, and the CPU is AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+.

The machine locks up with the following message displayed on the monitor during the initial boot.

Tried all available options on the boot loader, but in all cases kernel locked up at the same place.
>How-To-Repeat:
1. Put in the 7.0-RELEASE amd64 installation disc 1.
2. Select any option when prompted by the boot loader.
Similar lock-ups occur with i386 installation disc also.
