Brand new Apple MacBooks posses a Intel (or Realtek?) HDA audio chip,
namely the 284b8086. They get detected by the snd_hda driver, but output
is always silent. Playback works `normally', but the output is probably
muted somewhere.

I've used various utilities and applications, but sound is always
silent. Refer to the following dmesg for more information about the
