boot1.s hangs on system without keyboard controller

The code to enable A20 gate will hang on "legacy free" systems without a
keyboard controller at port 60 / 64.

Suggest adding some sort of time-out to proceed anyway if expected reply
does not come within a reasonable time. Or bail immediately if FF is read.
