ACK is pretty much useless to us.  It has no C++ or C99 frontend, and
lacks backends for five of the eight platforms FreeBSD runs on.  It
also lacks an ELF linker, and is probably years if not decades behind
GCC in terms of optimization.

You should not underestimate the amount of effort and talent that has
gone into GCC over the years.
