PHP 5.2.12 core dump under FreeBSD 8-STABLE with Apache 2.2 (apache-worker-2.2.14_5) worker-mpm mode

AFAIK PHP from ports is not thread safe and can't be used with MPM 
worker (threaded apache). With prefork it is working fine.
Or am I wrong?
