Bug ID: 214582
Summary: FreeBSD 11.0 Release Installer Doesn't Boot on Certain
Non-UEFI Systems (HP xw4600)
Product: Base System
Version: 11.0-RELEASE
Hardware: amd64
OS: Any
Status: New
Severity: Affects Some People
Priority: ---
Component: misc
Assignee: freebsd-bugs at FreeBSD.org
Reporter: cwr at core.cwross.com
CC: freebsd-amd64 at FreeBSD.org

Attempting to boot the following images on an HP xw4600 workstation fails; the
system does not recognize the boot media:
FreeBSD-11.0-RELEASE-amd64-mini-memstick.img
FreeBSD-11.0-RELEASE-amd64-memstick.img
I believe this issue could be related to the new install images that now have
combined BIOS and UEFI functionality.
I suggest this because I am able to boot a 10.3 BIOS image without a problem
(FreeBSD-10.3-RELEASE-amd64-memstick.img). I am also able to boot many Linux
installer images using the same hardware.
I have verified the checksums and attempted writing the images several times to
known good USB drives.
The system contains an Intel Core 2 Duo E8300 @ 2.83 GHz, 4096 MB RAM.
Sorry for the limited information, but this is the most I can provide without
further guidance. I am happy to provide more information upon request.
Thank you!
