linux32 sysctl questions

On amd64, the linux compatibility layer has the two sysctls

compat.linux32.maxssiz: 67108864
compat.linux32.maxdsiz: 536870912

where maxssiz defaults to a value of 64MB and maxdsiz
defaults to a value of 512MB.

What are the maximum permissible values allowed for these
sysctls?  Is there a fixed ratio that maxdsiz must be larger
than maxsdiz?

I've installed Matlab on my system and any substantial
increase in these values lead to a nonfunction matlab,
ie segfaults.
