Running 32 bit dynamically linked binaries on AMD64

No, it's definitely 32 bit:

$ file /libexec/ld-elf32.so.1
/libexec/ld-elf32.so.1: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1 (FreeBSD), dynamically linked, stripped

Same on all our amd64 machines - the 64 bit one is /libexec/ld-elf.so.1

Possibly your install is messed up ?
