Hello knowledgeable People;
Perhaps you can give me some advice with this problem:
I have just finished assembling a new machine that uses:
MSI RX480 Neo2 motherboard w/ realtek ethernet chip builtin.
AMD64 socket 939 3500+ processor.
When attempting to boot from the FreeBSD v6.0 install cd
the process is aborted with the following messages:
re0 ehternet address 00:13:d3;a5:ad:89
re0 diagnostic failed received short packet
re0 attach aborted due to hardware diag failure
kernel trap 12 with interrupts disabled
fatal trap 12 page fault while in kernel mode
fault virtual address =0x74
fault code =supervisor read, page not present
instruction pointer =0x20:0xc0657d4d
stack pointer =0x28:0xc1020958
frame pointer =0x28:0xc102095c
code segment =base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b, DPL 0, pres 1, def
321, gran 1
processor flags =resume, 0IPL=0
current process 0 (swapper)
trap number 12
panic page fault
uptime 1s
Additional info
Have only a ata cdrom drive on ide bus
Have an sata drive I intend to use as boot drive
have two SCSI drives intended for /var and /usr file systems
I have one other machine with AMD64 socket 754 - different motherboard
No installation problems
And another machine with AMD64 socket 939 with nvidia network interface.
I had no problem booting from the machine and installing the software.
As a matter of fact, this is the first time with this particular
installation set
of cds that I have had this problem. A details aside, I am thinking
that the
motherboard is having an issue.
Thanks for response in advance
Jeff K
