Which MySQL version best to use and with/without linux threads?

I know I read a nice long e-mail on this subject back in the 5.2.1 ->
5.3 days. But now I can't find the message in my message store or in
archives. I'll keep searching though.
I know a bunch of benchmarks were done with MySQL and libc_r, libthr,
libkse, and LinuxThreads.
