AMD64 kernel config file question

Neither the amd6/conf/GENERIC nor SMP config file
included:
device apic
I built my dual proc amd64s (5.3 release) on a tyan
k8s pro without it and the SMP is seems to be working
ok (tested it with openssl and got 2300 rsa1024
signs/sec). Would it help performance if I added it?
