migrating -current machine to amd64

amd64 doens't currently support a 32-bit world too well. You'll need to
replace everything, which is hard to do iwith an upgrade-in-place. I'd
recommend just reinstalling or upgrading via a CD.

I know peter's been working on the mixed 32 bit mode stuff but I don't
know what the status of that is.
